History of governance changes 2010-2025
The Educational Foundation of Bailey and Levett CIO (Founded 2024 - registered charity number: 1211520) is the successor charity to the Educational Foundation of Abigail Bailey and Ann Levett (Founded 1760 - registered charity number: 309769).
The original Foundation was set up to educate the children of the village through the funding of a free school. The original school was dated 1820 and was located in the centre of the village. The current school was built in 1864 and operated until it closed in December 1967.
In 1972 a group of residents took out a lease on the old school building to allow them to run Chelveston Village Hall. From 1976-2010 the Village Hall was run by a separate charity the Chelveston Village Hall Association (registered charity number: 266486). However, the old school building and School House continued owned by the Educational Foundation of Abigail Bailey and Ann Levett. This caused friction and prevented the charities from applying for grant funding.
In 2010 the Chelveston Village Hall Association was merged into the Educational Foundation, allowing grant applications to be made for funds to develop the building.
In 2025, the Education Foundation was refounded as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). The charitable "objects" of the new Foundation are closely aligned with those of the original charity which derive from charitable schemes from 1906
